Nationally Renowned Hammered Dulcimer Artist to Perform in SCC
The United Methodist Church of Sun City Center, 1210 Del Webb Blvd. West, welcomes nationally known hammered dulcimer artist Rick Thum to campus for a 7 p.m. concert Friday, February 15, 2019.
Rick Thum is an immensely talented musician who not only is a renowned dulcimer artist, but who also builds hammered dulcimers as well. He is ranked as the most influential dulcimer of the last decade by readers of “Dulcimer Player News”. He is best known for his festival performances around the country, which have regularly earned him the title as “Most Popular Performer” at the largest national dulcimer festival. Thum played guitar and drums at age twelve, and also played trumpet in his high school band. He has played in rock bands, and at one time played regularly on the upper deck of The Admiral in St Louis. He has directed a church choir and played dulcimer in folk bands as well.
In 1994, he sold his interest in a large Midwestern acoustic instrument shop to devote more time to being a travelling musician. He holds the distinction of being voted the Best Performer and Favorite Teacher for several years running at the prestigious Evart Dulcimer Funfest, the oldest and largest dulcimer festival in the nation. Thum has also produced the best-selling instructional CD series for the hammered dulcimer, the Original Song of the Month Club”.
A donation of only $10 is requested at the door on the night of the concert.
